Fertility centre in Pune, IUI Treatment in Pune
IUI is one of the most-sought and effective fertility treatments to overcome infertility issues in both men and women and conceive a child naturally. The initials I-U-I refers to Intrauterine Insemination, which involves sperm injected directly into the woman’s uterine cavity at the time of ovulation. The procedure can either be performed with the help of your partner’s sperm or donor sperm.
How Does It Work?
IUI is considered to be the first-line treatment for unexplained infertility, endometriosis, PCOS, and male factor infertility. Before proceeding with the treatment, your infertility doctor will recommend a few medications to stimulate the growth of eggs in the female partner. Egg stimulation makes a woman more fertile and ready for the IUI procedure. With the help of an injection, the male partner’s sperm is injected insider her uterine cavity. This saves the effort of sperm to swim through the cervical opening and reach the woman’s uterus on its own, allowing the woman to conceive naturally.
When both the partners are ready for the IUI procedure, the doctor will ask the male partner to provide his sperm sample at least one or two hours before scheduling the insemination. The sperm is produced by “masturbating” into a sterile container at the doctor’s office or home. The sample is then “washed” to separate the sperm from its semen fluid. The sperm sample is washed before injected inside a woman’s uterus to avoid any irritation caused in her uterus lining due to contaminated fluid. Also, sperm washing increases its chances of fertilizing the eggs.
During insemination procedure, your fertility specialist will use a speculum inside the vagina to insert a small catheter via cervix inside the woman’s uterus. Sperm is injected inside the uterus through this catheter. The procedure may take only a few minutes to complete, and the patient feels no pain or discomfort during the process.
Is IUI Similar To IVF?
The most significant difference between IUI and IVF is that unlike IVF, sperm is not injected directly into the egg to achieve fertilization. In IUI, the fertilization should happen naturally. Doctors help to place the sperm closer to the egg to increase the chances of conceiving.
Who Is An Ideal Candidate for IUI?
Is there any risk for twins or triplets in IUI?
Yes. Before proceeding with the insemination process, doctors recommend ovary-stimulating medicines to help the women produce enough mature follicles. When the time comes to ovulate, your body may produce more than one egg, increasing your chances of giving birth to twins or triplets.
Is IUI an ideal choice to conceive?
During the IUI process, doctors directly inject sperm inside the woman’s uterus cavity, closer to a site where fertilization takes place. Thus, IUI bypasses many challenges a woman might face while the sperm is swimming through her vagina and cervix. When the sperm count is low, IUI treatment in Pune proves to be an excellent choice to improve the chances of conceiving, as the sperm do not have to swim so far.
A woman will probably know if she is pregnant within the first two weeks of her insemination procedure. She may miss her next period, and a blood test can confirm whether she is finally pregnant.
