Infertility –

Infertility is described as a couple’s inability to conceive despite having regular, unprotected intercourse or intercourse with birth control for at least a year.

Infertility might be caused due to a medical conditionexperienced by you or your spouse, or it can be caused by a combination of circumstances that impede conception. Fortunately, several safe and efficient treatments can dramatically increase your chances of conceiving.

Is Infertility a Common issue?

According to AIIMS, around 10-15% of Indian couples struggle with infertility.

& It affects 15% of couples of reproductive ages globally, these percentages are on a steady over the years.

Fertility drops with age in both men and women, although women’s impacts are far larger. Women in their 30s are roughly half as fertile as they were in their early 20s and their chances of conceiving drop dramatically beyond the age of 35. 6 Male fertility falls with age as well, albeit at a slower rate.

The misconception –

Infertility is not necessarily a female issue. Women as well as men, either can be affected by infertility. Many couples suffer from infertility and seek help to conceive, yet infertility is generally seen as a woman’s problem. However, in roughly 35% of infertile couples, a male component is recognized in addition to a female factor. A male component is the only recognized cause of infertility in roughly 8% of couples.

The common causes for Women & Men –

Ovulation issues are the most common cause of female infertility. There are no eggs to be fertilized without ovulation. Irregular or non-existent menstrual cycles are symptoms that a woman is not ovulating regularly.

(PCOS)polycystic ovarian syndrome is one of the most commoncauses of ovulation issues, it is a hormonal abnormality that can prevent ovulation from occurring normally.(POI)primary ovarian insufficiency can also cause ovulation issues. POI is a condition in which a woman’s ovaries cease functioning normally before she reaches the age of 40. Early menopause is not the same as POI.

Infertility in males can be caused by a variety of causes and is usually diagnosed by a sperm analysis.

The common causes are

The testicular or ejaculatory function is disrupted due to conditions like Varicoceles or trauma to the genitalia. The sperm count also reduces due to habits like excessive drinking & smoking or using illicit drugs.

Hormonal disorders & Genetic disorders like Klinefelter’s syndrome, Y-chromosome microdeletion, myotonic dystrophy also cause low or no sperm cells to be produced.
